Equestrian Connections

Canter Carpet is part of the Potter Group, a third-generation family-run business with a long and distinguished interest in the equestrian field.

Since 2011, the Potter family have owned and operated the historic 300-acre Leighton Farm Estate, which houses one of the country’s fastest-growing stud farms.

Their vast and diverse experience of equine management, combined with the decades of showjumping experience brought by our Sales Advisor, Sian Cadwallader Hinkins, means that we fully understand what’s required to provide the perfect footing for our clients.

James & Jean Potter Bloodstock

The Potter Group's Managing Director James Potter and his wife Jean have been successfully breeding and producing racehorses for over 30 years.

The Potters have made a notable contribution to National Hunt Breeding, recently gaining recognition for their work when they were awarded the prestigious Queen Mother's Silver Salver for National Hunt Achievement.

They have also enjoyed great success with their homebred National Hunt horses, including Midnight tour (GB) and Kayf Grace (GB), who represented them on the track in 2017 / 18

Yorton Stud Farm

From its humble beginnings foaling mares for nearby contacts, Yorton Stud Farm is now widely recognized as one of Britain’s fastest-growing breeding operations, boasting a standing roster of in-demand stallions with endorsements from Britain, Ireland and France.

Run by David and Teresa Futter and their two sons, Lester and Riley, Yorton offers well-lit, spacious and ventilated stables, specialist CCTV monitored foaling units and a range of paddocks suited to mares and young stock of different ages.

Constant vigilance in providing the highest standards of care to each and every animal is the overriding concern. Whether your mare is visiting a stallion, boarding or receiving specialist foaling care, the service is founded on the personal touch.

Yorton’s graduates have seen success on the racecourse and the business is now seeking to further expand into this area, while its key focus remains on sourcing and preparing quality young National Hunt horses that are ready to run.

With half-sisters to Fox Norton, Valseur Lido and More Of That among their broodmare band - as well as stallions like Gentlewave, Pether’s Moon, Blue Bresil, Clovis Du Berlais, Universal and Norse Dancer - the future at Yorton looks tremendously exciting.

The Leighton Farm Estate

Leighton Farm is a unique collection of Grade II listed buildings perched amidst 300 acres of beautiful Powys countryside. Formerly a Victorian model farm known for its use of rational farming methods, Leighton is particularly notable for its scale.

Since 2011, it has been gradually transformed by the Potter family into an outstanding equine centre, including the acclaimed Yorton Stud Farm, with each listed building sympathetically restored and converted with the highest standards of equine care in mind.
